Data Integrity Issue - "Negative balances on a Certificate"

Why: This occurs when a transaction and certificate share amounts do not line up correctly.

When you see this error in the data integrity pop up window, it is best to take a look at the affected certificate. The transaction tab within the certificate gives a history/story of that certificate which would help you spot where the problem occurred.

From the screenshot above, we see that the Balance Remaining should have been 5 shares but 10 was incorrectly inputted. Resolving this is easy. Go back to the main Transactions tab to find the balance remaining Transaction Type and update the amount disposed and acquired.

Depending on the situation, you may delete the transaction or issue more shares to the certificate with a negative balance. Once this is done, the red exclamation point disappears and then the certificate status changes from “Invalid” to “Cancelled”
