Extended Access allows Administrators in Athennian to grant users visibility into connected records (like entities or individuals) without giving them full access to those records.

Availability: Enterprise customers upon request. Please reach out to your CSM if you are interested in this feature.

This provides important contextual information (e.g., shared offices, beneficial ownership links, or associations) while maintaining ethical walls and role-based security.

It’s ideal for:

  • Legal teams working across multiple entities that need context without access
  • Clients needing insight into ownership structures
  • Lawyers and professionals who need to see but not edit or access certain records

How to Set It Up
(Request Extended Access by reaching out to your CSM)

  1. Create an Access Group
    • Navigate to the Access panel and create a new Access Group
    • Assign specific Entities and People to the group
    • Add Users (e.g., clients, lawyers) to the Access Group
  2. Assign User Roles within the Group
    • Roles such as Read-Only, Summary-Only, and User still apply
    • Extended Access overlays on top of these roles to surface contextual information only
  3. Enable Extended Access (Default Behavior)
    • No additional toggle required — once access groups are set, extended visibility automatically applies 

User Experience and Directions

Summary-Only Users

  • Can view entity Overviews, Structure Charts, and references
  • Cannot open, edit, or redirect to records outside their group
  • Will see ownership and role connections, but with limited detail
    • Example: User can see that “Global Boston Inc” owns shares, but cannot open its Entity profile

User-Level Roles

  • Can edit and download information within their access group
  • Can see but not edit or redirect to connected records outside the group
    • Example: User can open “Global Records Inc” and see Angelico’s ownership, but cannot access Angelico's People profile

Limitations

  • Custom Reports: Extended Access does not apply
    • Users can only report on records they have direct access to
