Line Customization in Charts allows users to define line type, colour, and direction for ownership, debt, and non-ownership relationships, and surface these definitions directly in the chart legend.
Overview
Visualizing complex corporate structures requires clear differentiation between relationship types. By customizing connection lines, teams can visually distinguish between ownership, non-ownership, and debt/loan relationships. This ensures that charts align with internal branding standards and third-party reporting requirements while improving the overall readability of the entity structure.
Availability: Customers on the Professional and Enterprise plans.
Define Line Styles and Colors
Customize the appearance of connection lines to reflect specific interest types or relationship categories.
After selecting the Entity, navigate to the Structure Charts section
Open the Legend Modal located on the left top of the chart to open the customization menu and select the Legend
Under the Connections section, there are 3 types of available lines:
Ownership
Non-Ownership
Loans
Click on the line icon box next to the specific Connection type (Ownership, Non-Ownership, Loans) for the Connection Settings to appear
In the Connection Settings, you will find the options to customize the Line Color, Line Style, and how to Start the connection and End it
Note: Use the Start and End dropdowns to define the direction of the relationship, such as setting the end to an Arrow to indicate a downward flow, or None
Click Save to apply the changes to the chart view
Observe that the chart honours the existing structure while updating the specific connection aesthetics
Manage Visual Relationships
Ensure that line customizations remain consistent across different chart views and hidden nodes.
Expand specific interest types within the chart to identify which relationships (Ownership, Non-ownership, or Loans) require unique formatting
Toggle the visibility of nodes to confirm that line styles persist when unhiding entities
Review the chart legend to ensure that all line definitions are surfaced correctly for external stakeholders
Adjust the placement of entities; the customized lines will automatically move and adjust while maintaining their assigned format and color
Notes:
- Line customization supports three primary relationship types: Ownership, Non-ownership, and Loans (Debt)
- Any line formatting applied to hidden nodes will automatically apply once those nodes are unhidden, ensuring visual consistency
Edit the Legend Box
- Right-click on the Legend box on the Chart to show or not show the Connections in the legend box
- Click on the "Edit" pencil icon and open the Edit Legend modal
- In the Edit Legend box, check or uncheck the boxes:
- Shapes
- Connections
- Ownership
- Non-Ownership
- Loans
- Click Save
