Charts: Custom Relationships & annotations

Create custom shapes in charts that are not connected to any ownership data. Link them to the legends, add custom connection lines and create annotations in charts that are surfaced as notes.

Overview

Standardizing structure charts often requires representing relationships that exist outside of direct equity ownership, such as branches, business licenses, advisory entities, or carry vehicles. This functionality allows users to manually add custom shapes and connection lines without issuing transactions or impacting the securities ledger.

By creating these figurative connections directly within the platform, teams can finalize complex charts for KYC requests or stakeholder reporting without exporting data to external design tools.

Availability: Customers on the Enterprise plan.

Add and Configure Custom Shapes

  1. Open an existing structure chart within the Charts dashboard (to learn more, see the article: Use Charts Dashboard to Manage Saved Chart Views)

  2. Select the option to add a custom entity, node, or shape

  3. Click on the chart area to place the custom shape in the desired location

  4. Click into the node to enter the entity name or label, such as a Portco or Advising Entity

  5. Right-click the shape and select Link to Library to associate the node with a legend category

  6. Select Create a custom type to define a new legend category if a matching one does not exist

  7. Enter the label for the shape type and input a specific hex code to customize the shape color

  8. Click the blue Save button to finalize the custom shape configuration

Connect Custom Relationships

  1. Select the connection line tool to begin drawing relationships

  2. Click the side of a custom shape and drag the cursor to the target entity to draw an arrow

  3. Change the direction of the arrow to reflect the specific nature of the relationship, such as pointing downward for subsidiaries or laterally for advisors

  4. Use the Backspace button to remove a line or shape if a correction is required

  5. Reposition shapes by clicking and dragging them to ensure the layout remains clear after adding new connections

Add Annotations and Notes

Customize the appearance of connection lines to reflect specific interest types or relationship categories.

  1. Select the note tool to add annotations at the bottom of the chart

  2. Input specific details required for the chart, such as internal context or clarifications for a KYC request

  3. Review the layout to ensure all annotations and figurative shapes are correctly placed

  4. Click the blue Save button in the top right corner to update the saved view for the team

  5. Select the Export as PDF option to share the finalized chart or send it for signature via DocuSign

Additional Important Notes / Tips

Ensure that line customizations remain consistent across different chart views and hidden nodes.

  • Adding custom shapes is a figurative process and does not create new records in the database or impact the entity's registers and ledgers

  • It is recommended to link a shape to the library at the start of the creation process before final positioning to ensure the node relocates correctly

  • Future updates will include the ability to link these custom shapes to existing registration types and records within the platform
