Structure Charts: How to Use the Tool

Learn how to navigate the new dynamic Structure Chart experience, customize legends and shapes, apply filters, and prepare charts for export.

Overview

Availability: All customers. Certain advanced features are available only to customers on the Professional and Enterprise plans.

Access the Structure Charts

  • Navigate to an Entity Record → go to Structure Charts
  • The view loads your current chart data using upgraded layout and interaction tools

Navigate the Chart

  • Use zoom and pan tools at the bottom of the screen to move through the chart
  • Use the Overview tool at the bottom right of the screen, with parallel viewing of large charts from both a zoomed-out and zoomed-in lens
  • Click entity node + icons to expand or collapse ownership connections
  • Shift + click-drag to select multiple nodes for:
    • Moving as a group
    • Hiding (right-click > Hide)
  • Use the Hidden node toggle at the bottom left to show hidden nodes
  • Use Command + Z (Mac) or Ctrl + Z (Windows) to undo the most recent chart action (e.g. moving or hiding nodes)

Build & Apply a Custom Legend

  • Click the Legend icon (located on the left side panel) to open the Legend Builder
  • Start from the default legend or load a team-saved legend if available
  • To customize a shape:
    • Click the Shape icon next to a rule
    • Set:
      • Outer shape, stroke style, and border colour
      • Inner shape and Fill colour (optional)
    • Choose a colour using presets or by entering a hex code
  • Define display criteria for the shape:
    • Entity type (e.g. LLC, LLP)
    • Company group, region, tax structure, or custom fields
  • Click Save, name your legend (e.g. “Fund A Legend”), and choose to:
    • Save for yourself only
    • Or share with your team

Hide the Home Icon

  • Right-click (or double-tap on trackpads) the main entity node
  • A toggle will appear with the ⌂ Home icon
  • Toggle the ⌂ Home icon off to hide it from chart exports

View Joint Holders

  • When joint holders in a Class are shown in the chart, they display a ➿ Double loop icon next to their name to indicate the joint ownership

Display Entity Attributes

Availability: Customers on the Professional and Enterprise plans.

  • Click the Entity Information icon (located on the left side panel)
  • Select which Default Fields (Company Group, Country, Country Flag, Custom Entity Subtype, Entity Type, Formation Date, Region, Registration ID, Tax ID Number) and any Entity Custom fields to display on nodes
  • Click on Apply or Cancel changes
  • These edits only affect chart visuals and do not alter stored data

Use Filters

  • Open the Filter dropdown to refine what appears in the chart:
    • Filter by entity type, company group, custom subtype, etc
    • Show/hide GPs, managers, trustees, or only ownership connections

Edit & Export Charts

  • Double-click a node to edit visible text for export purposes
  • Click on a connection line and press Delete or Backspace to remove it
  • Use Up/Down arrows at the bottom to expand or collapse ownership levels
  • Right-click a node and use the Expand icon to open that entity’s full profile
  • Use the Export button to download the chart in supported formats
